Yūji Nunokawa, the founder of Studio Pierrot, passed away on 25 Decmber 2022, at the age of 75.
Nunokawa was born in Osaka Prefecture on February 11 1947. He graduated from Osaka University of Arts with a degree in broadcasting. He then worked as a production assistant for an animation studio before establishing Studio Pierrot in 1979.
Under Nunokawa’s leadership, Studio Pierrot became one of the most successful animation studios in Japan. The studio produced many popular anime series, including “Naruto,” “ Bleach,” and “Yu Yu Hakusho.”
Nunokawa’s death is a great loss to the anime industry. He was a talented producer who helped Studio Pierrot become one of the top animation studios in Japan. He will be dearly missed.
